MadElaine, born Carlotta Jovino in Venice, Italy, is a singer, songwriter, producer, performer, and journalist whose musical journey spans more than 35 years of reggae culture. Based in Costa Rica for more than 25 years, she has built an international career deeply rooted in Jamaican reggae, roots, dub, and sound system culture.
After beginning her musical journey in Italy, MadElaine became part of the UK dub sound system scene, where she collaborated with renowned producer Mad Professor. She subsequently expanded her work throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, and Jamaica, collaborating with leading reggae artists and producers. As a producer, composer, and artist, she established Jah Wheel Records, creating and releasing her own music and riddims.
MadElaine has performed extensively across the Americas and Jamaica, including Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, and Costa Rica. In 2026, she performed at the Bob Marley 81st Birthday Celebration at the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, further connecting her work to the heart of Jamaican reggae culture.
Her latest album, From My Heart To Your Heart (Jah Wheel Records, 2026), is a deeply rooted reggae project recorded entirely in Kingston, Jamaica, with sessions at Tuff Gong, Taxi, Charmax, Mixing Lab, and Harry J studios and mastering at Anchor Studio.
The 14-track album brings together MadElaine with reggae legends and contemporary voices including Max Romeo, Cedric Myton, Linval Thompson, Queen Ifrica, and Luciano. The album’s second half explores dub interpretations by Mad Professor, Joe Ariwa, Jordan Armond, and Jallanzo The Dub Wizard, creating a dialogue between roots reggae tradition and contemporary dub production.
As the album’s artist, songwriter, composer, and producer, MadElaine brings together decades of reggae experience with a deeply personal and conscious body of work. From My Heart To Your Heart reflects her enduring connection to Jamaica while presenting an original artistic statement shaped by her experiences, collaborations, and commitment to the continuing evolution of reggae music.
